PERSONAL WORK
The Soundless Outcry
Accepted in 2019 ITAA Annual Conference Mounted Exhibition
The Soundless Outcry described Korea's non-violent and democratic struggle that led Korea to independence and expressed the meaning of the Declaration of Korean Independence. Through this work, the designers would like to show how much Koreans aspired for independence from the Japanese colonial rule and how much they yearned for freedom.
Square Connections to New
Accepted in 2019 CSA Annual Conference Design Showcase
The goal of this design project was to bridge the intentions of mathematical theory and wearable art design by experimenting with the emergence of fractal art theory and the aesthetic of the artwork of Piet Mondrian to create an interesting, complex, and aesthetically pleasing visual form of wearable art. As apparel design scholars, I question whether mathematical theory could serve as a foundational concept in apparel design and how we could demonstrate expressive power or potential by combining fractal geometry of the Golden Sprial and the color properties of Mondrian's masterpiece.
I Care: I am Suffering with You
Accepted in 2018 CSA Annual Conference Design Showcase
"Clothes aren't going to change the world. The women who wear them will." Frequent exposure to current news and images about the Syrian war and refugees inspired this project. The purpose of this project was to use fashion designs for expressing current concerns and issues conveying more attention to the Syrian war and refugees. A wearer of this design as well as the community around this individual will be aware of the issue and will take care to take a stand instead of ignoring the humanitarian crisis.
Wave for Independence
Accepted in 2019 ITAA Annual Conference Mounted Exhibition
The Wave for Independence is a wearable garment to honor the origin and meaning of the March 1st Movement, which fought peacefully for the nation's independence by using the Korean flag symbolically. The designers successfully interpreted the symbolic Korean flag and applied features of the flag and Declaration of Korean Independence into fashion through digital printing and
laser-cut techniques.
The Fractal Geometry of Life
Accepted in 2018 ITAA Annual Conference Mounted Exhibition
The goal of this design project was to bridge the intentions of mathematical theory and wearable art design by experimenting with the emergence of fractal art theory and the aesthetic of the artwork of Piet Mondrian to create an interesting, complex, and aesthetically pleasing visual form of wearable art. As apparel design scholars, I question whether mathematical theory could serve as a foundational concept in apparel design and how we could demonstrate expressive power or potential by combining fractal geometry of the Golden Spiral and the color properties of Mondrian's masterpiece.
